  • Never walk alone late at night. Most campus crimes occur between 2 and 4 AM.
  • In the libraries, study as a group so others can look after your belongings when you leave.
  • After 4 AM buses aren’t running. Call Nite Ride to get home safely.

CHAPTER SUMMARY:


The University of Maryland is the perfect environment for learning and fun. But like all college campuses, there is always potential for crime to occur.  In comparison to other universities, Maryland is statistically excelling in terms of providing the safest atmosphere possible for its students in comparison to the national average.

In order to continue to ensure the safety of all members of this university’s community, the police staff,  latest technology and emergency procedures have allowed UMD to put in the extra effort to make safety for the Maryland student body easy and convenient.
