CHAPTER SUMMARY:

Our nation's capital is a vibrant city where people live, work and play. The city is best known for its monuments and museums, diverse culture, and national landmarks.

UMD students are in a unique position to experience the campus lifestyle and explore a myriad of non-traditional opportunities in the heart of Washington D.C., which is only a mere 8 miles away.

According to a survey for this chapter, money was the main reason students avoid traveling to D.C. While some attractions might cost money, several are free of charge. This chapter provides a guide to help students explore the neighborhoods, museums and attractions of D.C. for free!
