Chapter 4: Terp Transportation

By Ron Bethke

Testudo's Tips!
  • Signs at every bus stop show the stop number. You can text the number to 41411 or call 301-314-2255 for real-time Shuttle arrival predictions.
  • Call 301-314-NITE to get a free ride on campus anywhere at night (if there isn't a bus for that route).
  • Call 301-314-4CAR if you're having car trouble on campus. A motorist assistance vehicle will come to help!

CHAPTER SUMMARY:

The Department of Transportation Services, or DOTS, handles everything when it comes to getting around our campus. This includes the FREE services of Shuttle-UM, NITE Ride, a late night curb-to-curb service that ensures students can travel safely, and the Paratransit service, which caters to students with permanent or temporary disabilities at any time. Additionally, DOTS handles parking and student permits on campus, as well as motorcycle, scooter, and even bicycle registration.

Though becoming familiar with a big new campus like Maryland's can be daunting for a new student at first, you can always count on these DOTS services, among others, to get you where you need to go and keep you connected to both the campus and the Maryland community.

RELATED VIDEO:

Though you will learn a ton of in-depth information about all of the transportation services provided by DOTS by reading my chapter, one thing that I think is important to keep in mind is the fact that while our transportation helps us get from point A to point B, it more importantly provides every student the ability to get the most out of Maryland. Whether it's getting to class or to the library to get the most out of your education, using our services to venture out and get the most of Maryland's location, or simply getting around on a fun weekend night, our transportation services help every student stay connected to the University. Plus, you never know who you're going to meet....
